Cleansing and Consecrating

Before you being practicing spells and rituals regularly, or whenever you acquire a new tool or altar, it is always good to cleanse and consecrate it(them). Doing this will eliminate any negative energies which may be left over from previous experiences. This ritual is one that I use often. It can be changed to suit your needs.

-taken from "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" -Silver RavenWolf

Items Needed:

-Gather everything together, place on altar, and cover until ready to use.

-Sometime during the day, physically clean the room/area.

-1/2 hour before the ritual, go over everything in your head, and make sure you have everything ready.

-Take a bath before the ritual to physically and psychically clean yourself. Envision all negative emotions and energy spiralling down the drain with the water. Choose clothing which you can move freely in, if any.

-Stand before the altar. Breath deeply. Light the illuminator candles with the lighter.

-Circle the room clockwise (or deosil) and light the elemental candles, starting in the north.

-Pick up the broom ans sweep in the circle as you walk inside in a deosil direction. Repeat:

"Sweep, sweep, sweep this place,
by powers of Air, I cleanse this space."

-Shut your eyes and feel energy flowing around the circle. Return to the altar and pick up the silver candle. Light it from one of the illuminator candles. Walk around the circle deosil, saying:

"Light, light, light this place,
By powers of Fire, I cleanse this space."

-Repeat the process with the holy water, saying:

"Liquid, liquid, wash this place,
"By powers of water, I cleanse this space."

-And with the earth:

"Dirt, dirt, as I walk this place,
Powers of Earth, cleanse this space."

-Move to the center of the circle, and standing in the Goddess position (feet separated, arms outstretched toward the sky, palms up), say:

"This altar is dedicated to the Lord and Lady of Light.
May it serve me well!"

-To end here, thank the God and Goddess, and the elements for their participation. Ground your energy by touching the ground and feeling your excess energy draining out of you and back into the earth.

-Raise your hand over your head in a counter-clockwise motion, circle it around the room, and say:

"The circle is open,
May it never be broken!"

-To use this ritual to consecrate tools or jewlery, continue with the following steps, then finish as above.

-Stand before the altar and pick up the first item to be consecrated. Imagine a glowing gold spotlight shining on it from the heavens. Pass the item over the incense and say:

"I cleanse and consecrate this ______
for positive means. All negativity is removed
from it in any time and any space."

-Repeat this process for the remaining 3 elements.

-Lay the item down on top of your pentacle (if you are consecrating a pentacle, place it in the earth). Place your hands above the item, and form a triangle with your fingers. Imagine a silver orb in the opening of your hands. Let it grow brighter and brighter. Raise the energy from your body adn gently push it out between your hands and into the orb. With your mind, lower the orb onto the item and let it be encompassed. When the energy dissipates, say:

"By the will of the Lord and Lady, I have
empowered this ____. May their blessings
shine upon and through it always.

By the free will of all,
and with harm to none,
As I will,
so shall it be done!"

-Repeat this for all items which need to be consecrated.

-Follow the closing procedures listed above.

-Bring the remaining water and earth outside and pour them on the ground and say:

"I thank thee for the use of your power."
