Your Graduation day!

You will reach a point in your studies when you realize that Wicca either is or is not the religion that you want to practice. If it is, then you will want to do a self-dedication or initiation. If you study within a coven, it is up to the coven to initiate you. Some people think that a self-initiation does not mean anything, and the only 'true' type of initiation is done by a coven. This is not so. Any form of initiation is plenty for the God/dess. Of course, if you wish at some point to join a coven, you will most likely have to be initiated into their way of practice.

You may be wondering what the difference is between a dedication and an initiation. Well, I performed my dedication first...when I decided that Wicca was for me. Then, I worked and studied for a little while (a common amount of time is a year and one day), and then I fully initiated myself into Wicca. Some of you may not feel this in necessary, and that is fine. You should do whatever you feel works best for you.

You may not be happy to hear this, but I am not going to put an initiation ritual here for you to use. If you do decide to perform one, it should come from your heart..at least this is the way I feel. Of course, there are many books out there where you can find ones to do. If you do this, you should try to change it just a little to make it more personal.

I will give you some advice, however, as to what should go into a self initiation ritual. First, you should do something that will symbolizes you leaving your past beliefs behind. It should take place on or near the full moon. You should also spend some time in meditation, or just thinking about what Wicca is and what it means to you personally. The ritual should end in some kind of celebration...unless you are unhappy that you are joining it, in which case you have some more thinking to do.

Well, I know that this isn't much, but it should give you a starting point. GOOD LUCK!
